European barn owls are generally found in open land areas of the British Isles and countries bordering the Mediterranean. Populations are declining severely, with most birds dying within their first two years and very few adult birds living past three to four years. The asymmetrical location of their ears allows them to triangulate sound, and their ability to rely solely on hearing makes them excellent hunters.
